Break Between Papers

Exam Schedule
The FMGE is conducted twice every year by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), giving students multiple opportunities to qualify.
June – July Session
The mid-year FMGE session allows candidates to attempt the examination after completing their preparation in the first half of the year.
December – January Session
The year-end FMGE session provides another opportunity for students to qualify and move forward with registration.

Distribution of Question Types in FMGE
Text-Based Questions
Approximately 90% of the questions in FMGE are text-based (written questions). These evaluate theoretical knowledge and clinical problem-solving ability.
Visual / Image-Based Questions
The remaining 10% are visual or image-based questions, testing candidates’ interpretation skills through medical images, diagnostic visuals, and clinical slides.

Subject-Wise Focus of Visual Questions
The text-based questions are derived from all 19 medical subjects, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the MBBS curriculum. The visual/image-based questions are primarily asked from the following subjects:
- Surgery
- Radiology
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OBG)
In addition, 2–3 visual questions may also appear from:
- Pathology
- Microbiology
- Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM)
- Ophthalmology
- Medicine
- Dermatology
- Orthopaedics
These image-based questions usually include interpretation of X-rays, ECGs, histopathology slides, instruments, radiographs, or clinical photographs, testing the student’s practical diagnostic ability.
NBE Blueprint and Subject-Wise Weightage
According to the official blueprint posted by the NBE on their website – www.natboard.edu.in – the exam maintains a balanced distribution of questions across all subjects.
Each subject contributes proportionately to the total of 300 questions, covering both basic medical sciences and clinical subjects, to ensure fair assessment of every area of medical knowledge.

Brief Description of the Question Pattern
The FMGE is a computer-based test (CBT) in English comprising 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark with no negative marking. The examination is structured into multiple sessions (Paper 1 / Part A,B,C and Paper 2 / Part A,B,C), each session containing 50 questions with a time allowance of 50 minutes, giving about 1 minute per question.
The syllabus covers the full spectrum of medical education — Pre-clinical, Para-clinical, and Clinical subjects — aligned with the Indian MBBS curriculum. Subject-wise weightage: Pre & Para‐clinical subjects contribute approx. 100 marks, while Clinical subjects contribute approx. 200 marks (out of 300 total).
Questions are objective, single-best-answer format emphasizing application and clinical scenarios, not rote memorization. Visual (image/slide-based) questions may appear, particularly in subjects like Radiology, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, though no fixed quota is specified.
Candidates should refer to the official FMGE & NMC/NBE bulletin for updates, as the regulatory framework may evolve over time, especially with the advent of the National Exit Test (NEXT) for medical licensing.

How to Prepare for the FMGE Exam
1. Attend All Lectures Regularly
Attend all lectures conducted by the MIST Faculty and participate actively in the FMGE Test Series. 3. Revise Consistently
Revision is the key to success! Revise each subject at least three times before your final exam. Regular revisions help you strengthen memory recall and improve your accuracy during the test.
4. Participate in Weekly Tests
You are required to appear for weekly tests conducted by MIST FMGE Coaching. These tests are mandatory and are closely monitored by our dedicated evaluation team at MIST Delhi. Your performance is analyzed carefully, and you will receive personalized feedback highlighting your weak areas along with suggestions for improvement.
5. Maintain a Minimum Score of 70%

6. Appear for Full-Length and Subject-Wise Tests
